Unconsoleable

Games can be fun and accessible even if you haven't been playing them for 20 years. Consoles scare us and we bet they scare you, too.

29: Those Ballin' D-Bags

April 8, 2015

We welcome the awesome Shareef Jackson to the show and discover how fun it is to have a person on the show instead of a developer. What's that you say? Developers are also people? Surely you jest.

We talk with Shareef about all his gaming and podcasting exploits, he shatters our dreams of a Gameboy-like iPhone accessory, we rant some more about Game of War ads, discuss our taco preferences and Anna gets accused of not being fit to co-host Unconsoleable! (GASP!)

Please enjoy and don't forget to rate and review us on iTunes, follow us on Twitter (or follow Anna, Jessica and Shareef too of course!)

28: The Tacos of My Homeland

April 1, 2015

What do tacos have to do with Nintendo coming to mobile gaming? Just stick with us, dear listeners, and we promise you'll find out and it will make sense.

Besides comparing everything imaginable to food, we try to shush people who say that mobile game development is too crowded, Anna has a light bulb moment about how she's somewhat similar to people who play brutally difficult shooty stabbies and Jessica falls in love with an adorable robot.

Please remember to review us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter (and follow Anna andJessica too)!

27: The Great Llama Incident

March 25, 2015

Did you wonder what evil mastermind was behind the recent llamapocalypse? We are pleased to tell you that we here on Unconsoleable have uncovered the truth! It was all a clever idea for the launch of hit iOS game Alto's Adventure, made by Canadia app studio Snowman.

Ok., fine, that's not really what happened. However, we do have with us the founder of Snowman, Ryan Cash, and we talk to him about all the important llama details and everything else Alto.

Please enjoy the show and if you do, remember to rate and review us on iTunes, follow us on Twitter (and follow Anna and/or Jessica too) and tell your friends, family and heck, strangers on the street, to listen to our show!

26: Some Kind of Cat Influence

March 18, 2015

Give it up for our very special guest this week: Megan Fox!

No, not that Megan Fox. This Megan Fox is clearly the better one. Why? Because while the other Megan merely has questionable acting ability, this Megan made an awesome game called Hot Tin Roof that will delight and enthrall you.

Megan tells us about her journey from tween coder and gamer to working on major projects to founding her own studio. We fawn over the cuteness and sense of humor in her games and find out what's next for this quirky, indie developer.

Love what we're doing? Please rate and review us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter. Check out our awesome t-shirts, mugs and more to proudly tell the world that you are a real gamer.

25: We Coined a Term

March 11, 2015

On our silver podcast anniversary, we celebrate Jessica's current respite from grad school, announce the winner of our t-shirt contest, argue (sort of) about a recent piece we read about gaming and of course talk about all the games that we've been playing lately.

But wait, there's more. We ponder a cool new game we might be excited about, wrinkle our noses at celeb-driven mobile games and wonder if VR would work for casual games.

As always, please follow us on Twitter (and follow Anna & Jessica) and email us at feedback@unconsoleable.com with any questions or comments. Review us on iTunes too! No, seriously,  do it.

24: Dwelp It Forward

March 4, 2015

We have another fabulous guest on this episode and while you may not have heard of Alex Blaj, we think you'll love his game Dwelp like we do.

Alex, speaking to us all the way from Romania, tells us about how he started in game development, what types of games he plays, er, researches, how he feels about free to play vs. paid games, getting noticed on the App Store and much more.

Please to enjoy, dear listeners, and then go follow us on Twitter, (and follow Anna & Jessica) and rate and review us on iTunes!

Gaming Yoda Steve Lubitz, with Revolution 60 cosplayers at PAX East 2014

23: Our Gaming Yoda

February 25, 2015

The man, the myth, the legend, Steve Lubitz, finally makes it to the guest chair on our show. You may have heard Steve on that little-known gaming podcast calledIsometric, but for this show he was all ours <insert evil laugh here>.

Steve taught us some valuable mobile gaming history, admitted that ok., Alto's Adventure really is good and opened up about the real reason he rages at Nintendo so much.

So please enjoy the show and remember to rate and review us on iTunes, follow us on Twitter and check out Steve's very excellent blog, Multiball.

22: An Act of Masochism on Your Phone

February 18, 2015

It's back to just Anna and Jessica this week so we are free to go on all sorts of tangents like how Jessica took Latin in school and Anna took French, but neither of us knows either language now.

We do talk about video games though, we promise! :-) We learn that mobile game developers want the same things we want in 2015, namely better mobile gaming experiences, less free-to-play garbage, etc. We're glad that Apple is promoting so-called premium games, but is it enough?

Also our friend Brian's game is out, yay! We helped test it so you can blame us if you don't like it (haha, not really).

Remember to review us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter!

21: Australia Day

February 11, 2015

Matt Hall is officially one of our besties. The Crossy Road developer fills us in on the Australian update to his mega-popular game, teaches us a delightful new expression and endures our begging for Crossy Road chicken plushies not yet available to the public :-D

We also have an interesting listener email to share (yay, listener emails rock!) and we shake our heads in sadness at the nonsense our friend Bri had to go through en route to getting her game greenlit on Steam.

Don't forget to review us on iTunes and have us love you forever! :) Follow us on Twitter too (or follow Anna and Jessica).

20: Monumentally Excited

February 4, 2015

We would like to introduce you to our show's newly hired spokesperson: Ken Wong of Ustwo Games!**

**Ok., not really. Ken already has a super cool and awesome job (duh!) but if he didn't, he would totally be working with us.

It turns out (not surprisingly, if one thinks about it) that he's our kind of gamer and our kind of game developer all rolled into one. HE GETS IT. In case you still don't, this is the episode you absolutely must listen to.

Don't forget to rate and review us on iTunes and follow us on Twitter!
