Night Moves began as something I wanted Rich Stevens to do with me that someone else started talking to him about before I had the chance. I've been buying Rich's t-shirts since I was in college. I think we became Internet Friends when I got a picture of myself wearing the "We Are Not ALL Jerks" American Flag one with Janet Reno.
After that dissolved, Rich and I began exchanging emails about various things, including my helping him figure out when, why, and how to do a show he'd actually want to do and that would have a reason to exist.
He sort of wanted to do a show about the paranormal and the alien and the just plain weird, but saw no point in trying to "be" Coast to Coast AM (or even pretend to). Art Bell has already basically done that. We figured that it could be a recurring non-hardcore theme of a show that ends up being mostly a show about nothing and at once everything in the multiverse.
We both liked the idea of a show beyond the concept of a show about nothing.
I didn't want to do another weekly show unless it could be a half hour or less. I recall Rich saying some version of "there are too many not-short and super-shitty podcasts in the world." Kismet.
We set about spending the last few months planning, talking, convincing ourselves our ideas were garbage, and recording unreleasable blather/twaddle in the interest of getting a one-on-one rhythm and dynamic established. We kept vomiting into emails about how we did not want to do this and that, and eventually we got this.
We hope you like it. Should be in iTunes soon. Tell Rich you like it on Twitter so he'll come out from under the covers. He's worried the Illuminati are onto us now.
If there are things you'd like to hear covered on this show, please get in touch before The Great Fall dissolves civilization.
This is not the last new show of the year. It might not even be the last new one with Rich on it.
